Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council
Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council engaged Philip Clarke to deliver a twelve-month leadership development programme for the Senior Management Team. This was designed to build capability and confidence across the senior team and to embed a stronger culture of collaboration and accountability.
The results really speak for themselves. Because of Philip’s work, the Council saved £4.7 million at the end of the last financial year. However, his impact was much more than cost efficiency.
As Chief Executive I have noticed a step change in the confidence and the performance of several members of the senior team. Philip’s insight, guidance, knowledge and tactful approach have been invaluable, and the Council management is working more cohesively because of his work with us.
The programme entailed a series of monthly in-person workshops combined with one-to-one coaching. The latter was particularly beneficial because it allowed senior managers to develop and test fresh approaches to how they conduct their roles within the organisation.
Not only did this result in enhanced performance for the individuals but the results of their reporting business units also showed a marked improvement.
In short, costs are down and customer satisfaction is up.

Through a full review of our recipes, production flow, and waste data, he revealed areas where the true costs weren’t being fully captured. From there, he guided us in setting up accurate measurement systems, provided structured templates for margin analysis by customer, and helped our team to embed a disciplined weekly review process.
The outcome was significant — we implemented over €1.5 million in price increases across the business, fully justified by the insights gathered. More importantly, we gained real clarity and confidence in our cost base, enabling better commercial decisions and margin control moving forward.
